Japan's August exports and imports both fell y/y, not as much as expected

Japanese trade balance data for August 2023.

Exports to China fell 11% y/y in the month, and to Asia as a whole -8.8% y/y. Otherwise the news was better:

• exports to the EU +12.7% y/y
• to the US +5.5%
