Realme will launch its first high-end smartphone overseas

Realme and its rivals

Realme will launch its first high-end smartphone overseas

It is quite hard to compete with Samsung and Apple. However, Chinese companies are willing to compete with them and Realme is not an exception. The company is set to launch its first high-end smartphone overseas next week in a bid to grow its market share in Europe and continue its rapid growth.

Its G2 and GT 2 Pro smartphones will launch on Monday at the annual Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. It is Realme's first appearance at the world's biggest mobile trade conference.

Realme and its plans

The company may not be well-known to consumers in Western Europe or the U.S., but it has been growing quickly. In the last quarter of 2021, Realme shipped 20.65 million smartphones, up 48% year-on-year according to data from Counterpoint Research. Meanwhile, Apple saw a decline and its rival Samsung saw just an 8% growth.

Nevertheless, Realme is relatively small with a global market share of just 6%. For instance, the tech giant Apple shipped 81.5 million smartphones in the December quarter.

Still, the company attracted attention thanks to more price-conscious consumers. At the moment, it is the second-largest smartphone player in India.

Realme's CEO Sky Li is hoping to maintain that healthy growth this year. Last year, the company managed 50% growth according to Sky Li. This year, Realme wants to sell more than 85 million phones globally.

The company faces a number of challenges in its push to gain a share in the high-end market. It is trying to convince consumers to buy their devices instead of from established players like Samsung, Apple, and even Xiaomi.

Its GT 2 will retail for around $600 while the GT 2 Pro will start at around $800.
