is there a way of removing invalid chaintips?

is there a way of removing invalid chaintips?

after mining on the testnet getchaintips got full of chaintips with "status": "invalid". Invalid chaintips can't be extended with new blocks because one invalid block makes the chain invalid. Can these chaintips be removed? Why doesn't bitcoin core remove them?
