Japanese Shares End the Session in Profits


After the market closed on Monday, Japanese equities rose as increases in the food, fishing, and pharmaceutical industries drove up stock prices.


The Nikkei 225 rose 1.03% in value at the Tokyo closing bell. Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5202) increased 5.48% or 28.00 points to end trading at 539.00. It was the best-performing session stock on the Nikkei 225. Shinsei Bank, Ltd. (TYO:8303) increased by 5.06% or 105.00 points to 2,180.00 in the late session. In contrast, Nippon Yusen K.K. (TYO:9101) increased by 5.35% or 132.00 points to close at 2,599.00.


Outlook on Monday’s Trading Session


The session’s weakest performance was Kansai Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9503). It dropped 5.28%, or 64.00 points, to end at 1,148.00. Maruha Nichiro Corp (TYO:1333) saw a decline to 4.47% or 110.00 points to 2,350.00, while Unitika, Ltd. (TYO:3103) dropped 5.03% or 15.00 points to close at 283. On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, declining equities exceeded rising ones from 1860 to 1711. Meanwhile, 205 closed unchanged. The Nikkei Volatility calculates the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options. It increased 5.19% to 26.33, a new high for the past three months.


The price of a barrel of crude oil for November delivery increased by 2.91% or 3.66%. Brent oil for December delivery increased by 3.58% or 3.05 to touch $88.19 per barrel in another commodity trading. At the same time, the December Gold Futures contract decreased by 0.02% or 0.40 to trade at $1,671.60 per troy ounce.


EUR/JPY increased by 0.30% to 142.26. USD/JPY increased by 0.11% to 144.91. At 111.96. The US Dollar Index (DXY) was down 0.11%.


Indexes with a high concentration of technology companies continued to perform poorly as investors undervalued future earnings compared to rising bond yields and interest rates. The Taiwan Weighted Index, for instance, lost 0.7% of its value and dropped to a level almost two years ago. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index slid 1.6% to a fresh 11-year low.
