Deutsche Börse Sees €1.8trn Order Book Turnover in 7 Months of 2022

The total order book turnover from Deutsche Börse's Xetra, Börse Frankfurt and Tradegate Exchange trading venues reached €1.8 trillion during the first seven months of 2022 alone. This is in sharp contrast to the €1.9 trillion generated across all the three venues in 2021.

The Germany securities markets operator disclosed these in its cash market trading statistics for 2022 published on Monday. Deutsche Börse stopped including Tradegate Exchange's trading volumes in its calculation in August as the stock exchange "is no longer consolidated due to changes in the ownership structure," the pan-European exchange explained.

What are the Most Actively Traded Stocks in 2022?

According to details shared by Deutsche Börse, the stocks of software company SAP SE, universal bank Commerzbank AG, wind turbines marker Nordex SE, and heat and power plants maker 2G Energy AG were the most actively traded stocks of the German indices DAX, MDAX, SDAX and the Scale All Share in 2022, respectively.

For the DAX Index, which tracks the stock performance of the 40 biggest German companies by market capitalization and liquidity, SAP SE's stock emerged with the highest order book turnover of €59.9 billion. This was followed by the stocks of industrial gases producer Linde PLC, which generated an order book turnover of €57.8 billion, and insurance company Allianz SE, which posted €57.8 billion.

Check out this recent Finance Magnates London Summit 2022 session on the latest in retail and institutional trading.

"Commerzbank AG topped the MDAX Index at €13.9 billion, while Nordex led the SDAX with €3.0 billion. 2G Energy ranked as the most traded share in the SME segment Scale with a volume of €200 million," Deutsche Börse explained.

On the other hand, the iShares Core MSCI World UCITS EFT, which tracks the performance of an index composed of companies from developed countries, generated the largest volume on Xetra with €11.6 billion last year.

Deutsche Börse's December 2022 Turnover

Meanwhile, Deutsche Börse noted that its total order book turnover in December last year declined -20% to €92 billion, down from €115.1 billion in prior year. Year-over-year, the December turnover represents a much bigger -41% decline from the €156.6 billion posted in the previous year. However, minus Tradegate's volume in December 2021, the December 2022 volume represents a -29% decrease.

"Of this amount, €89.8 billion was attributable to Xetra and €2.2 billion to Börse Frankfurt. The average daily turnover on Xetra in December was €4.3 billion (previous year: €6 billion / previous month: €5.1 billion)," Deutsche Börse explained.
