In a previous article which examined both the art of politics and the art of what is possible, I considered the swift political rise and fall of Liz Truss. This account looked principally at what went wrong with her economic policies and examined how these brought her career as Prime Minister to a very quick end. In fact, at 50 days, her tenure at Number 10 Downing Street was the shortest period on record for any British Prime Minister. However, there is also a back story which contributed to her eventual demise, and this also concerns her predecessor, Boris Johnson and one of the main policies which he steered through parliament, namely that of "getting Brexit done." The subject of Brexit, Boris Johnson's part in it, and the problems it brought to Liz Truss, will be the main thrust of this article.
