Sports and crypto found a slower week as the field of play is host to all of the newsworthy action this past week. In U.S. sports, baseball comes to a close, the NBA and NFL seasons are in early to mid swing, and the NHL playoffs are appoaching.
All eyes, however, from a crypto perspective seem to be on the World Cup. Hosted in Qatar, there is an official crypto sponsor and expected digital engagement around the corner. To what degree, we will see. In the meantime, we’ll dive into all of last week’s sports and crypto activity with The Sports Slice.
It was around six week ago when we highlighted a new NFT integration around physical collectibles with Hasbros’ NBA action figures as part of our usual Sports Slice coverage. Those actions figures are coming to market by the holiday season it seems, as pre-orders have opened for the eight initial figures.
Visa is rolling out a new ‘Masters of Movement’ NFT collection in the build up to the upcoming World Cup. Visa’s new release, in partnership with Crypto.com, is a release centered around art inspired from five spectacular goals.
Both Visa and Crypto.com are official partners with the World Cup in Qatar which kicks off later this month. Initial bidding on this release will end on Tuesday, November 8. All proceeds go to UK-based charity organization Street Child United.
The release also leads up to FIFA’s Fan Festival, which is expected to allow fans to create digital art based around their own movement on an interactive pitch.
It’s been quite a storyline for both Tom Brady and Tyrese Haliburton in their own respective rights this past year. Brady has faced commentary about life on and off the field, while Haliburton had a difficult reality to face when traded from Sacramento to Indiana in the offseason. However, Brady’s Autograph.io platform – known for securing deals with some of the biggest sports stars on the globe – has tapped Haliburton for a new podcast, "Autograph Presents: Get Minted with Tyrese Haliburton.”
Last week’s debut episode featuring Autograph board member Tony Hawk, and upcoming episodes are expected to include the likes of Eva Longoria Bastón and Charli D'Amelio.
